How to Use Things You Collected from Travel for Projects and Still Keep Them Intact After?

There are so many small things you collected from travel, train/plane tickets, travel pass, postcards etc.  You don't know what to do with them, you don't want to make a scrapbook out of them coz you are not sure if they will look good or you simply don't have such kind of energy to complete such daunting task, you obviously don't want to throw them away.....

I asked my flight attendant friend, whom I met years ago from tap dance group, to get me some of the tickets and paper stuffs she could collect from her trip to Russia, so that I could pretend I went there.  Posted this picture on Flickr, then all of a sudden problem solved, see the conversation below:

Shanti: I'd be interested to see what you do with these. I've got a little shoe box full of tickets and receipts I've saved from wherever in the world I've travelled and I'm yet to plan what I will make with them.

Patrick: hahah for things I don't quite care about keeping, they will be used on some of my notebook refill covers. I suggest you to lay them flat on scanner and scan, not for archiving purpose, just to have a random collection of things from places you travelled to, then laser print the scanned collage on a large piece of A3 paper, use that A3 paper for decorative purpose on your stuffs (notebook refill cover, boxes, etc). This way you get to keep the original and you can enjoy seeing the copies of them here and there. Good tip? :)

Shanti: Great tip! Why haven't I even thought of scanning them? I'm sure some of them are probably faded by now. Ooo! I'm excited to get them out and look them over again now:) Thank you!

Scription Chronodex Weekly Planner Jan-Jun 2013 Released

Alright, haven't gotten much time to take better photos or explaining too much, I guess Chronodex lovers already know how it works.  It was a thrill that there were 72,841 downloads of the 2012 version and I hope many of you are as inspired as I am on everyday basis using Chronodex!  Thank you for being part of it.

This time I've included a yearly dial featuring our beloved Vitruvian Man.  Each division represents the correct number of days in that month, with reference to the week number in the inner most dial.  If you want to plan ahead of the entire year of 2013, it should be a good visual representation of how you want your year spent, just color the weeks or the day divisions and remark radially, you are in control.

Canon F1 in Wood Interpretation

Oh BTW, I stole some time last night to execute an idea of woodenizing my beloved Canon F1n.

Not proud of it yet, coz I was just peeling off old fake leather from the macine and applied decal sticker on certain parts.  I don't know what you call this obsession of natural materials (leather, wood, etc), those stuffs please me and calm me like no other.  Someday I'm gonna grab some real thin wood veneer to make it authentic.

Canon F1n is such a heavy full brass machine, sick to carry for a long time, but I guess the emotion for me loving it originated from my youth.  No money, no taste, just love the idea of taking photos, some classmate made it to acquire an F1.  I was "just" hanging on with my 120 Yashica. Took me years later to get my very own F1n.

What then?  Treasure what I've already have or lust after Leica M?  Same as lusting after hundreds of masking tapes, the important thing is what you do with these objects.  Tresend yourself form object lust and free yourself from endless chase of equipment, AND enjoy the serendipity of not having those things in the timing you desired.  Having said that, I still want a Leica M :)

700 Masking Tapes and Philharmonic

What? My Instagram follower @ditzy_klutz said he/she is up to 700pcs of masking tape collection!  Talking about obsession and world record.  Anybody can top that?  True, you never know when to stop lusting.

And tonight I went to a beautiful music performance by Hong Kong Philharmonic in the New Central Harbourfront grassland.  The final piece was a feature of firework demonstration with Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks.

 

Heading for business trip for the next week, gotta update you what's been going on diligently.
