What if you work on the sales floor and you did your best but people up in the hierarchy didn't show much appreciation? That's how we thought of the awards.
When we import great stuffs, we also think of how things are to be displayed in the stores. In many cases, the sales floor staffs just couldn't grasp the essence and didn't care to display as best as possible. Despite efforts being done to have display trainings, product knowledge sharing etc, nothing seems to work, they just live in a very different world under their chain of commands dealing with basic stuffs.
But some stores repeatedly did great jobs and understand our concept very well. So during a trip in ISOT stationery show in Japan, Monica (my colleague) and I came up with the idea to reward good people and good people only, to set examples and appreciate. We quietly observed how good each team in each store are to understand display concept and maintenance during our Back To School 2010 event.
Our stationery buying team finally decided altogether that APM store stationery team spent significant brain power to prepare and maintain the event, while iSquare store stationery team actively looked for improvements and being self-initiative. I eventually made these laminated awards for each of the staffs and presented together with a HK$100 gift card to these good people. I hope they can continue the good work and spread their knowledge company wide. I hope.
