Yesterday I had a meeting with Pentel for a review of our Back To School promotion (x00% performance increase for Pentel can you believe it?) and how we are going to launch their latest arrival. One question in my mind which bugs me all the time is why the name Slicci for the series of pens they produced. I finally asked the Japanese maker yesterday, to our surprise, Slicci is a combination of two words: Slim and Rich! Gee, no wonder girls love the series so much and guys should pay more attention to it too. Slim refers to the pen barrel of course, but Rich actually points to the "color rich" aspect rather the "wealth".
Well, Japanese sort of pronounce Slim as Slimu and Rich as Lit-chi. So there you go, combining these two words results in Slichi, or Slicci.
You may recall seeing a very popular series from Pentel called
Sliccies not long ago, which like Pilot's Coleto and UNI's Style Fit, allows you to choose your favorite pen barrel color and up to 3 different refill in various colors and size. Next month Pentel will release in Hong Kong an international version of their
Slicci Metallic Colors in 0.8mm. IMHO, the pen barrel color looks a lot more beautiful than the Japanese domestic version. Somehow, the ink works very well in both light and dark papers. I particularly like the violet and pink colors, they comes out nicely from the grey paper I used for testing.
