Been busy planning the 5th anniversary event with Midori. The event will first go to SEOUL and then come to HONG KONG in June (more details coming up)
Meanwhile, the English web site of Traveler's Notebook is now officially launched, and you can now find the limited anniversary edition Traveler's Notebook in camel color in our city'super and LOG-ON stores! How about this special edition brass pen for the event? We still don't know yet how you can get one.
19 years ago my dad shelled out all he had for my architecture dream, this extra flash was a luxury, he asked "do u want it?" I weeped and I am weeping looking at him now with Parkinson's. God!
Please please please God, ease his suffering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!
I enjoyed this little project done last year (2010, 2 years before the end of the world) in November. A DIY iPhone case doubling as a real camera look alike holder and a stand.
I wish I used it for today's Hong Kong #instameet, such a great gathering, love chatting with a scientist about his next speech, a movie producer, an IT guy from France, the only girl who came over from Macau just for this, 'old' friends, etc. If you happen to be on Instagram, check out our #hkinstayay tag or HK InstaYay Facebook page.
Here's a simple walkthrough. Grab any iPhone case with simple design, find any old lens about the same width of your iPhone and a glue gun. That's basically all you need.
Sorry to say that, to camera freaks, I spoiled a Voigtlander old camera with a very cute lens, it was given to me by a good friend and artist in New York, but I think it is more happy on my iPhone rather than sitting on shelf gathering dust.
I unscrewed the lens from the camera body and sawed away unnecessary stuffs, sticked a piece of blue paper on the back of the lens to make it look handsome behind the lens, hot glued on the back of the spare case I had, and finally adding a piece of scrap leather (could've done better giving it a few stitches). That's it.
The beauty of this is that you can hold the extruded lens using your left hand, feeling safe because you have more than a flat surface to grab hold of, steady steady… and shoot with your right finger. It doubles as a stand on your desk so that you can have perfect viewing angle for your movie and photos. With a few more twists, you can add a strap on both sides so that the iPhone rests safely on your neck. How perfect.
Sooner or later, there will be commercially available cases like this I predict. It is so much fun, but of course it becomes bigger to carry or slide into your pocket, but hey that's a good looking thing to carry isn't it?
update: a crazy HKInstayay Instameet Instagram Illegal move video.
Blake Mycoskie: Start Something That Matters I don't know why I couldn't finish this book, maybe it was the tone it was being written. Gotta get back to it someday, or not. (**)
Paco Underhill: Why We Buy: The Science of Shopping--Updated and Revised for the Internet, the Global Consumer, and Beyond Read this book 10 years ago. To read this updated copy is to refresh my memory of how things were done back then and what's changed recently. Although at the beginning it is kind of boring and you may not agree with their research methods, but later in the chapters you will find hidden wisdoms. Just follow the author's logic and see what you can learn from it. (***)
Walter Isaacson: Steve Jobs Love hearing the stories all over again, some of them especially what happened in the past few years are new to me. Most importantly it is a closer portrait of Steve than all other books about him. Isaacson recorded audios during his interview with Steve, check out 60 minutes special and you will hear Steve's own voice. RIP Steve. (****)
Richard Branson: Losing My Virginity Read it like a novel coz you'll find it attractive as a story to follow through. Learn from his character through stories! (****)
